Frequently Asked Questions

What constitutes a highly compatible production environment?
It is easiest to illustrate with an example. ABC Machined Products is a job shop supplying fuel injector bodies to an OEM. These are complex parts produced from a difficult material. Shifting market conditions indicate impending order reductions. Output will go from three shifts to one. While Acme is capable of producing a wide range of other parts on their equipment they have developed a distinct specialty. They are proficient in machining 440 stainless steel, their long term, high volume buys of this material has earned them preferential pricing from the mill and they own primary and secondary process equipment which was brought in solely for the injector business. Finding replacement work which makes maximum use of Acme’s capital assets and skills will benefit buyer and seller alike. ABC can bid competitively while maintaining its profit margin. The buyer nets a favorable price and a competent supplier. Aligning a synergistic match involves acute timing and awareness. This is a big part of what we do.

How is RFQ LINE compensated?                                                           First of all, we are NOT resellers or middlemen. In today's ultra cost competitive manufacturing environment more and more manufacturers are outsourcing some or all of their sales function. Salaried sales staff, advertising, databases and subscriptions to fee based, internet marketplace services all add to the cost of quoted goods. Our compensation structure is entirely performance based. We are paid, by the manufacturer, a prearranged commission which is pinned to the dollar amount of product shipped. Formal quotations, purchase orders and invoices are generated directly between the manufacturer (vendor) and the customer. Our role goes beyond that of intermediary. We take on the role of Account Representative for the life of the project. We're readily available, in the plant and in front of the customer as warranted.

With what type of parts has RFQ Line had the most success?
We deal strictly with built to order parts produced through several distinct process methods. Within those parameters we have earned contracts on projects of all size and magnitude. From sample parts to batch orders to continuous production cycles requiring tens of millions of parts annually. Complexities range from rough castings to extremely intricate medical components. We routinely quote parts that have never been produced as well as parts that have been in production for many years.

As a buyer, how do I enroll?
You don’t. There is no enrollment, membership or fee. No usernames, no passwords. You simply submit an RFQ, just as you would to any other potential supplier.

On average, how long does take to obtain a quote?
We will do everything possible to help you meet your deadline. In exceptional cases we have been able to submit a quote within several hours of receiving an RFQ. Obviously the physical size and complexity of an RFQ is a major factor. Exchanging information with our affiliate manufacturers via the Internet has reduced turn-around time drastically. As a policy, we keep you informed of our progress leading up to the actual quote submittal.

Who are the people behind RFQ LINE?
Our account representatives have many years experience as direct, factory representatives. They are routinely involved in all phases of production over a broad spectrum of industries and processes.
